Here are some inspiring pictures of a young bald eagle being released recently at Lake Helena. A rancher used a rope to rescue the bird from the Sun River near Great Falls. How Montana is that? I wasn’t there for the lasso rescue, but it strikes me as a good foundation for a Pecos Bill legend.
Lisa Rhodin, a raptor expert and animal rehabilitator for Fish, Wildlife and Parks along with a crew of volunteers stabilized the bird when it arrived at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Helena, then Apex Animal Hospital x-rayed it and found a fracture. The bird received surgery before being rehabilitated at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Helena and then the Montana Raptor Conservation Center in Bozeman.
