Oregon Hunter Finds 360-Inch Bull Elk Sheds

Ever hear the saying, “your luck is bound to change?” Chris Harer probably agrees whole heartedly with that statement.

According to the East Oregonian, the 25-year-old hunter from Pilot Rock was cruising near the North Fork of the John Day River when his 1981 Toyota truck got stuck in mud deeper than Crater Lake. To make matters worse, he had no cellphone coverage and there was an hour of daylight left.

To compound the issues even further, the girlfriend was freaking out about becoming the meal du jour for a cougar and bad weather was brewing up like a nasty rash from a tick bite.

Yep, things were looking bleak.

The couple decided to seek high ground with the hopes that they’d obtain a cell signal and call for help.

They started up a mountain side, fighting their way through buckbrush so thick and uninviting, a prison warden would deem the growth suitable for containing maximum security inmates.

At that moment — the moment Harer is thinking “what did I do to deserve this?” — he spotted a matched pair of six-point, 360-inch bull elk sheds with 22-inch sabres — a shed find of a lifetime!

All of a sudden his cell phone is working, a ride shows up, and everyone back at town wants to pat him on the back and talk about the sheds. He’s even been offered a Dodge truck for the pair (which he’s passing on).

Funny how fickle lady luck can be, which is just as cliche as “your luck is bound to change” — but both are true.

Congratulations, what a treasure. Bet I know where you're elk hunting next year.

This is bulls***, Chris did not find the horns, his former girlfriend, Cara did and chris just took all the fam and glory from her. Yeah its awesome that everyday people can find awesome things like this, but giv the credit to the right person. and in this case, it was not chris. i know both of these people, very well and this is not what really happened that night either.

Well, folks you know how exes are. Still looking him up online and having friends try to undermine the joy of his great find. Sad, really. Exes are exes for a reason.

Chris and Cara both told me the story the night the sheds were found. The truth is Chris spotted them while trying to lead a very distraught young lady out of an unfortunate situation. By her own admission the ex was "freaking out," had her face covered, and was crying her eyes out because she was terrified of cougars. Sounds like a real outdoors girl to me! Do you really believe she suddenly said, "Oh look, Chris, some huge elk sheds, let's run down into the draw and get them?" Get real and don't be so naive.

Blahaha! Oh HollyJo Beers, you wouldn't be afriad of cougars as well. And Since we both know these people I have heard your a little chicken shit as well. So i wouldnt be dissing Cara over the internet. And neither one of us where there that night so do you REALLY know what happened or just taking one side and from your comments, seems like your taking Chris's side.

No One is "Undermining" their find but it was an equal find, they both were their together at the same time. Credit should of gone to both not just the one side.
