While most bowhunters prefer to do their hunting with stick and string, two Montana bowhunters are probably thankful that they were packing heat in the form of a sidearm.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks are reporting that two bowhunters hunting for elk in the Gravelly Mountains shot and killed a sow grizzly with a handgun when the big bruin reportedly charged the pair. Two large cubs, believed to be near two years old, were with the sow.
Montana law allows for a self-defense shooting of a grizzly in certain situations, including protecting one’s life, another person, or domestic dog.
