Myth Buster: Do Big Tracks Equal Big Racks?

by Melissa Bachman   |  December 17th, 2011 1

Can you imagine seeing this print in your field??

As a hunter I love seeing big tracks in the food plots, on trails, and hopefully coming right by my stand, but do big tracks always equal a big buck? If you believe that’s the case, then I found a buck that should be a new world record!  Last weekend a hunter from PA shot this buck in West Central Illinois. Although the buck scored 130-inches, it wasn’t the buck’s rack that everyone was talking about.

This buck had nearly 7-inch hooves with a spread that would truly blow your mind!  It’s hard to say what caused the bucks hooves to grow abnormally long but he did appear to have an old injury and still had scuff marks on his chest from dragging himself around.

Clearly he had recovered from the injury and was out chasing does last weekend in Illinois when this lucky hunter bagged the big hoofed buck!
