Although Eugene Kurinka lives in southern Alberta, Canada, he and a group of close friends have been traveling to the Slave Lake area in northern Alberta for more than a decade in pursuit of whitetails and other big game.
On November 14 last year, Eugene struck pay dirt when a giant 7x7 whitetail moseyed by his stand. Eugene was trail watching on the ground in the same spot he had hunted several years in a row. It was his first morning out after setting up camp.
Around 11 a.m., Mr. Big stepped out of a ravine, and Eugene knew what to do with his trusty Ruger .270.
The incredible whitetail had a perfect rack with seven tines on each side. At first, no one realized just how big this buck was, but it didn’t take long to discover that the North Country giant would net more than 200 B&C points.
In fact, after deducting 9 3/8 inches for nonsymmetry, Eugene’s world-class trophy netted 200 1/8 typical points, good enough to make it North America’s biggest typical for 2005. It also ranks No. 2 in Alberta and No. 15 all-time in B&C.
