Pig hunting makes for some exciting footage, and in 2012 we saw some fantastic hog hunting videos. Below are our favorite of the year, affectionately termed the "Porky Awards." From the skies of Texas with the Pigman, to wild boar hunting with modern-day Swedish Vikings, make sure to check out the videos and complete the form below.
In celebration of pig hunting at its finest, the first 1,000 people to fill out the form will receive a Wild Boar Aimpoint DVD.
Wild Boar Fever
We first saw this video at the Aimpoint booth at SHOT Show. We froze in our tracks, jaws on the floor, watching these modern-day Swedish Vikings pillage boar after running boar with bolt-action rifles. If you want to see what true expert riflemen can do to a running pig, watch this video. We grabed a promo DVD for ourselves and you should too. But there's a catch (and there always is a catch, right?). When we asked the Aimpoint folks where readers could get copies, we found out they were for dealers only. But they do have 1,000 copies left over and will mail them out to the first people interested. Don't say we don't ever do anything for ya! Click here to get yours.
Wildgame Nation
This video is cool, not just because it involves a helicopter (which doesn't hurt), but because it's the first video ever to combine crossbow pig hunting and helicopters (that we know of anyway). We scoffed when we first heard the idea, as hitting running pigs with a rifle is no easy feat, let alone an arrow. We figured Busbices (hosts) would net a big fat zero for their hard-earned aviation gas. But we have to tip the cap to the boys, as they shafted quite a few. Now, if next season they combine the helicopter hunt with the quest to crown Miss Wildgame nation, they will have a real winner!
Aporkalypse Now
This episode of Pigman on The Sportsman Channel was good, but the trailer was simply awesome--easily the best teaser we have seen all year. Put two hams, Nugent and Quaca, together in the confines of a small helicopter, add rifles and cameras, and let the humor and bullets fly. Ted's full-auto M16 combined with his quip, "If you don't kill a hundred hogs a week, you should be forced to move to Canada," puts this episode over the top. Good music, good videography, good action… What more could you ask for? A pig hanging from a helicopter, you say? Oh yeah, it has that too.
Red Jacket Hog Hunt
Our friends over at Guns & Ammo have been working with Sons of Guns star and founder of Red Jacket Firearms Will Hayden for quite some time now, so a feral hog hunt in the muddy Louisiana swamps was bound to happen sometime. But these guys just had to add a little flavor to this hunt, donning colonial-style clothes and hunting with flintlock muskets. Technology shmechnology. This video is proof that the old-fashioned ways can be plenty of fun too--just watch out for water moccasins.
Monster Wild Boar Hunt in Hungary
The good ole' U.S. of A. isn't the only place plagued by porkers, and what better place than Hungary for some great European hog hunting? Ian Harford from Team Wild TV hopped across the pond with his trusty Ruger M77 Hawkeye All-Weather, and the resulting footage is outstanding. Just like in the States, there's nothing like going out and makin' bacon, even with a little change of scenery.
