11 Must-See Bowhunting Products for Elk Hunters
Montana Decoy Spike Elk

Montana Decoy Spike Elk

Once you’ve decoyed a bull elk, you would no sooner go afield without one than any duck hunter would leave his greenhead fakes. A Spike Elk decoy could be the difference between drawing that massive 6-by-6 into the open or only seeing him through your spotting scope. Portable, this realistic and lightweight decoy can easily strap onto a pack. It expands to 40”x30” and comes with shock-cord leg poles with steel tips so you can set it away from the hide, keeping the bull’s attention on the decoy.

Montana Decoy Cow Elk

Company owner Jerry McPherson brought three different bulls over 320 inches to within 10 feet of this realistic cow decoy during the first season of testing. Under 3 pounds, it’s easy to pack and won’t bog you down. It unfolds to 48”x50” for better visibility in the scrub brush and open plains out west, plus you can use it as cover on stalks. Proceeds from each purchase go to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, so do the right thing!

Rinehart Woodland 1/3 Scale Elk

Not everyone has a back 40 or the extra cash to buy a lifesized elk target, so this smaller 3D target (38” tall and 44”) long is roughly 1/3 of the size of an actual animal. It simulates a 60-yard shot at 20 yards in terms of target size. The body of the 1/3 Elk is comprised of solid FX Woodland Foam with an integrated/replaceable core insert, which can soak up an exceptional number of shots from both field points and broadheads.

Mathews Vertix

Finally ready to retire that tough old Switchback? It’s not easy to find a smoother-drawing compound than the Vertix, which can change draw weights from 50-75 pounds in 5-pound increments. A new Engage grip was designed to ensure consistent hand placement, reducing torque and increasing accuracy. The bow is 30” axle-to-axle, with a 6” brace height and a 343 fps IBO rating.

Mathews Traverse

Nothing is smooth as a Mathews. Built on a stable platform to provide draw lengths up to 32.5 inches, the Traverse is powered by Mathews’ Crosscentric Cam that can produce speeds of up to 338 fps. The 3D Dampening technology reduces sound and vibration as you let an arrow loose. Draw weights can be set to 50, 60 or 70 pounds and let-off is 75 or 80 percent.

Easton Micro 4mm FMJ

A full-metal jacket coats a 4mm carbon core for better penetration on big game. These arrows pass through an elk’s vitals with less friction, so you won’t have a long blood trail to follow if you do your job. Since the shaft is smaller in diameter, there is less drag in flight, resulting in optimal speed when the broadhead strikes flesh.

Swhacker Levi Morgan 261

You will get field-point accuracy form this mechanical broadhead, which sports a unique arched blade design, reducing blade resistance after entry and retaining greater momentum for better pass-through. Blade-lock allows the expandable blades to remain in a closed position so you can practice with the same broadhead you will shoot in the field. The 100-grain, two-blade broadhead is built with anodized aircraft aluminum for strength and rigidity.
