More Than The Hunt: Chasing Green with Ranar Moody

If you join a duck blind with Ranar Moody, you'll discover a woodsy essence in his hunter's soul. Influenced by early trips to Georgia, Ranar's deep connection to hunting reflects his upbringing chasing deer, wild turkeys, and bobwhite quail.

Spend time with someone like Ranar Moody in and around a duck blind, and you'll see a variety of emotions play their way out during the course of a day's hunt.

For the Macon, Ga. resident and his crew of family and friends like Darryl Moody and others, there are grimaces as the body protests the boot-sucking mud and hard work of getting the spread set before go-time. There's the good-natured laughter of poking fun at your buddies, laughing at yourself, and the camaraderie of telling flooded timber greenhead stories that date back years, if not generations.

Most days, after a late night of planning the day's hunt and an early morning wake-up call, fatigue shows up on the quiet truck ride to the blind, if not in the droopy eyelids that quickly appear in a blind during the mid-morning lull. Add in a little duck blind food—anything from breakfast burritos at the local convenience store to a sack full of donuts to cast iron eggs and bacon served up from a duck blind’s cook stove—and there's even more to fuel a slow drift away into a duck hunter’s mid-morning nap.

But there's also the quick snap to attention in the eyes of a duck hunter, a sudden wide-eyed glimpse into their backwoods soul as the whisper of migrating wings cuts the air above on a cold, still winter’s dawn. Let that flock of mallards spin through the air a time or two as they check out the decoys, and the eyes of a hunter grow wide and open up a portal that gives a glimpse deep into the marrow of what it means to be a waterfowler.

Share a duck blind with Ranar, a pro-staffer for Can-Am and owner of 24.7Hunt, and you’ll discover a woodsy essence in his hunter’s soul that was influenced by early trips into the Georgia hardwoods and pine forests with his father and grandfather chasing deer, wild turkeys, and bobwhite quail.

Ranar’s hunting DNA centered around those early pursuits for many years. But when he was introduced to the sights and sounds of greenheads circling a timber hole in eastern Arkansas, the die was cast for Ranar to spend his life chasing green 24/7, along with creating wildfowling rap music, filming superb video content and creating a clothing lineup that celebrates all that’s good about the waterfowler’s pursuit.

Come fall, the time of year that hunters like Ranar and Darryl live for as they hear wings cutting through the air, and you’ll understand that the emotions that fuel their ongoing lifestyle pursuits never really goes away. In fact, that captivating duck blind fuel quietly simmers under the surface all year long, boiling to the forefront when the wind turns to the north, the leaves change colors, and ducks chatter hungrily on the chilly breeze.

Thanks to a new original video series being presented by Can-Am, one entitled More Than The Hunt, viewers will get a deep look into the hunting world of Ranar and his family and friends as their waterfowl hunting story gets told about a group of outdoors enthusiasts who are passionate and dedicated to their craft year-round.

“You’re prepping, prepping, and prepping until it’s finally time,” said Darryl of the never-ending chores that live on the waterfowler’s to-do list until the calendar finally says that it’s time for opening morning.

Central to that prep work every year is a work-horse side-by-side off-road vehicle like the Can-Am Defender, a mud buggy that's reliable day in and day out inside the woods and out. If you hunt, or if you have work around the house or the farm, having a Can-Am Defender at the ready is one of the smartest investments you'll ever make.

Just ask Ranar, Darryl, and the rest of the 24.7Hunt crew, a group of hard-working waterfowlers who certainly believe in their Can-Am off-road vehicles like the Defender. In fact, it’s an integral part to their duck hunting lifestyle lived out year-round, a 24/7 way of life that never stops until it’s time to sit still in a duck blind.

“It’s real every day during the summer and the fall, dreaming about the season,” said Ranar with the far-away gleam of a passionate duck hunter shining in his eyes. “It really doesn’t click though until you shoot that first one and you look at him and you’re like ‘Dang, we’re back, here we are.’”
