Weatherby ’s Backcountry 2.0 series has proven popular among hunters looking for lightweight, accurate performance in a mountain rifle. Now, the Wyoming gunmaker has taken inspiration from the lessons learned while designing the Backcountry line and used that knowledge in the development of the new Mark V Hunter rifle. This new series of Weatherby rifles also features an expanded cartridge selection, giving hunters plenty of options to find just what they’re looking for.
At the heart of the Weatherby Mark V Hunter series are the company’s signature multi-lug bolt systems and corresponding actions – a combination proven to deliver both accuracy and reliability. The standard cartridge configuration will feature a six-lug action, while magnum actions incorporate the tougher nine-locking-lugs design. Three rings of steel surround the cartridge’s base when the action is locked-up, and three gas relief ports vent dangerous pressure should a cartridge fail during firing. The bolt is fluted to shave ounces off the rifle’s overall weight and enhance the already smooth action. The bolt throw is a fast 54-degrees, so quick follow-up shots are easy and maximum scope clearance is maintained regardless of your optics choice.
Both the action and barrel (available in No. 1 and 2 contours) are finished in Cobalt Cerakote for enhanced protection from severe conditions and harsh weather. The barrel is also threaded at 1/2x28, allowing for the addition of either a muzzle brake or suppressor.
The barreled action is fit into a polymer stock that takes its stylings from Weatherby’s popular Backcountry 2.0 rifle. Aluminum pillars secure the action in place and add strength to the design for maximum, repeatable accuracy. The modern ergonomics help manage recoil while delivering comfortable handling and use under all field conditions. The flat-bottomed forend provides a solid place to balance the rifle while using bags, tripods and field-expedient rests. Palm swells are ambidextrous for a more comfortable fit on either side of the rifle.

Like all Weatherby Mark V rifles, the Mark V Hunter comes with the company’s signature sub-MOA accuracy rating, guaranteed to shoot a three-shot group of .99” or less at 100 yards when used with Weatherby ammunition, or other premium ammo.
