New Zealand Red Stag Hunting In The Muck

New Zealand Red Stag Hunting In The Muck

Made it back to New Zealand after about six years to film a few episodes of the American Huntress TV show. I loved NZ on my last hunt and I've been dying to get back over here. Last time I was in NZ I was hunting Tahr in the snow but this time I'm on the west coast hunting in the rainforest.

Huge difference!! I saw rain gear on the packing list but I had no clue I would be hunting in pouring rain and knee-deep muck. Definately a new experience but it made me appreciate my stag even more when I finally got him!

Brit's List:

Outfitter: Wilderness Quest NZ (Gotta check them out if you haven't already. The hospitality is out of this world and the lodge even has heated floors in the bathroom...gotta love that!)

Gear: Haley Vines Outdoor Clothing (My boots and rain gear actually kept me completely dry which makes hunting in the rain seem much less miserable)

Weapon: Ruger Rifle in .300RCM (I love the 300 calibers because they just whack the animals so hard that with a well placed shot they drop in their tracks! Also the short barrel makes ducking under branches alot easier)

Ammo: Hornady Superperformance 165 grain SST Interlock

Optics: Zeiss Victory FL 10x32 binos, Zeiss Conquest Rifle scope 4.5-14x44 and a Zeiss Dialyt Spotting Scope 18x45x65 (I know...lots of Zeiss, what can I say... I like it!)
