BOWHUNTING IS a primitive endeavor to which the tactics for success have changed very little for nearly a century. However, the same cannot be said for the bows we take afield. Personal proficiency with your bow of choice will never be replaced but there is no denying the performance edge that a modern bow gives those who take one afield.
Regardless of brand, flagship model bows deliver a level of innovation and precision that is undeniable. As a self-proclaimed gear junkie and passionate bowhunter, I geek out each year over the new offerings from various archery companies. Some labeled “innovations” are nothing more than well-played marketing ploys while others undoubtedly provide a noteworthy advantage. Truth be told, archery hunting is hard and shot opportunities, especially spot-and-stalk hunting the West like I primarily do, are few and far between and often at extended distances. Despite shooting thousands of arrows in preparation for a hunt, the margin for error with a bow in hand is miniscule. If a new technology is released that will help me deliver a precise arrow through the vitals on a more consistent basis, I am all about it. The brief monetary sting of purchasing a new bow is no comparison to the heartbreak of wounding and losing an animal.
